Well it started it 4am, when Balky got up to fly to Sydney for work, it was raining - it hasn't rained for weeks, and now, it rains, three days before Summerset - how rude!
I had to park the car in the dingiest parking building in Wellington - what is with parking buildings anyways? Why do the stair wells always have to smell of piss - and seriously, whoever used this stair well for the toilet last night had some SERIOUS bladder issues!! And to rub it in, the doors weren't labelled, so I spent an extra few minutes in there trying to work out how to get out.... my only $20 note would not be accepted by the ticket machine - so after aobut 100 tries I readched for the credit card...I left feeling totally violated!!
Trying to juggle two jobs is pretty interesting, and takes a bit of preparation - so, getting to my first meeting this morning and waiting for quater of an hour before realising that the person was not going to show - nice ofthem to let me know!! Lesson learnt - always confirm on the day!! Sigh......a wasted hour of a busy day!
The way back to the office was equally as great - somehow, on rainy days, pedestrian rules no longer apply - no chance of anyone stopping to let me cross the road - green man or not!!
I purchase a drink to help me along the way - glass bottle - great - why is there NO WHERE in Wellinton city I can recycle my recyclables - how backwards is that. Never fear there is always someone worse off - an old island man emptys all the rubbish from his hands onto the foot path when he is standing a meter froma rubbish bin - I swiftly bent down in front of him, picked it up and disposed of it for him!!
Bring on tomorrow!!!
I love this clip about web 2.0 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE
Well, it's been another crazy week!!
Brian arrived from Adelaide on Sunday night and stayed with us until Thursday. He and I went down to Christchurch for the RIM BlackBerry beyond email Road Show which was good - great to have him over in NZ and great to meet a lot of our future customers, we were also at the Wellington event. Stayed with Mum and Dad in Christchurch which was nice!
I have taken on another contract role involving a 'Data Roll Out' - all very unexciting but keeping me busy - and lots of late nights!! Jamie was around for dinner on Friday which ended up being midnight!! Jason, Anna and Dave called in on Saturday for a visit too.
This week ihive, the Wellington entreprenuers group meets on Thursday and then we are off to Masterton for Rachel Hughson and Patrick Grant's wedding at Tulloch lodge. I have a dress and shoes etc organised (thanks Mum!) so shall hopefully get some photo's posted.
On the 17th, Wellington will have it's largest concert to say goodbye to summer - Summerset
(http://www.bassdrop.co.nz/mainsite/summerset-feat-shapeshifter.html)We are having a BBQ at our place beforehand so come along if you in town
. It should be an awesome concert - I can't wait!!
Thought I would share with you a couple of innovative products I have purchased recently. It is nice to see everyday products re-marketed, with designers quite literally thinking outside the square.
The first product is Moxie Tampons - here's what they say
"We girls deserve the best - all of the time. That's why we created Moxie: quality tampons, securely protected in unique and discreet purse-worth tins. Stylish and feminie with a hint of glam, we no longer have to keep our tampons under wraps. Every day should be special....spoil yourself with Moxie".
These tampons come in a cute little tin with a lid. Very cool - they have a easy open wrappers too. Hopefully they will make them in hemp or cotton one day soon, but other than that they seem to have thought of everything! Nice work!
cope with my extra thick hair.
Mackenzie uses the Animal shapes tangle free bands and they work really well, even on her fine hair. She can pull them out herself with out them getting snagged.
Great to finally have a decent, long lasting hair product.
It was soooo nice here yesterday and such a rarity that I have to write about it!! After weeks of cold, and wet, and wind – yes that’s right our coldest summer in recorded history, we had a nice warm day!!
It was celebrated by a meeting out in the sun at St Johns bar after work– with what felt like half of Wellington (instead of stuck inside like previously arranged) which finished off with a beautiful rainbow over the city (bring on the blackberry phone with a camera and keyboard I say) and then a walk with Jessie along Lyall bay to watch the sunset at 9:30pm. I can’t remember the last time it was warm enough to let my poor imprisoned feet out of their warm shoes and socks and let the waves lip over their toes – it feels like forever and was just bliss.
I have decided that life is now about stolen milli seconds of pleasure – to expect for a day or even an hour is just too much so to be happy with a perfect moment is enough for me.
Phat07 is not for the fainthearted, it was, on the outside, a shambles – long queue’s to get in, missing my fav acts from the delay, rain, mud, crap catering – no alcohol allowed and only one bar supplied – what the?… the list would go on if it weren’t for one thing…the music!! Which is what everyone was there for – awesome acts, awesome talent, and the best sound system I have ever heard in my life. The pterodactyl stage was supa cool, pumping out most awesome dnb soundz for 48 hours at a volume and tempo that lasted another 48 hours after departure, and right next to the tents – wicked!
I guess the main point is that we survived, and we can’t wait until next year. The organisers promise changes, but really, the only thing they need to do better is communicate!!
Well, it's 2007 already - Christmas was huge - my Mum and Dad were here for the morning and Mikes family for the afternoon. Lots of food, lots of presents!! Mackenzie ate way too much chocolate - and her finished dollshouse was a success!!
Well, having only been able to find one person that had ever been there, and they didn't have much to say about it, I didn't have high hopes for Adelaide. So far though it has to be my choice on Australian cities...it has beautiful hills, loads of trees, nice beaches, the heat is much more bareable than elsewhere and it seems like a pretty nice place to be. We have been so well looked after and have learnt loads in our time here!! We spent yesturday on a Directors Tour around Monarto Zoo which is a really well set up safari park just out of the city - photo's posted...we even got chased by the lions which was pretty awesome :o).
